KATADYN MINI CERAMIC FILTER

Purpose and Action

The Mini Ceramic is a water filter for camping, biking, hiking, mountaineering, during hotel stays, etc.
This filter will immediately transform even turbid water from lakes and rivers into crystal clear and germ-free drinking water.
  • The fine porosity of 0.2 microns (0.0002 mm) or Katadyn Ceramic safely traps bacteria and spores, in addition to suspended solids, turbidities, worm eggs and protozoan cysts, regardless of the water quality.
  • Impure drinking water presents one of the most serious health risks while traveling. The Katadyn Mini Ceramic solves this problem in a safe, environmentally-friendly and simple way, without boiling the water or adding chemicals.
  • Malodorous and health-endangering chemicals can be removed by changing to an activated carbon filter. Simply replace filter element art. no. 20547 with element art. no. 20656.

Operating Instructions
Please observe for best performance of your Mini Ceramic Filter.
Preparation
Assemble: Attach foam float (1) to the intake hose (2) by detaching the hose from the housing (3). For more convenience you can also push the thicker hose (4) over the outlet tap (5).

Operation
Pumping: Immerse the intake hose in water. The float should hold the pre filter above the ground or stones. Hold the filter vertically; move the pump handle (6) up and down. After 10 to 20 pumping actions water flows from the outlet. First use: pump out first 1/2 liter (quart) or until water is clear.(Yellow ceramic dust is harmless but has earthy taste.)
Avoid: stagnant, muddy, or algae-ridden water. Ceramic will clog prematurely and cause stress to the filter housing as well as reduce the capacity of max. 7000 liter (2000 gallons).

Cleaning the Katadyn Ceramic
If pumping becomes noticeably more strenuous, it is an indication that the filter pores are clogged. Never use force when pumping. Regenerate the ceramic by brushing under running water with the supplied cleaning pad (7). The dirtier the water the more often you will have to clean the element.
Remove the element by turning it to the left as far as it will go and lifting it from the housing. When you put it back in, keep the outlet to the left, push down and turn the outlet to the front. Do not use soap or disinfectants. If your filter has a strong smell soak it in baking soda and rinse thoroughly with fresh water.
NOTE: The filter will trap all particles >= 0.2 microns. Even clear water can cause your filter to clog due to invisible particles.

Replacing the Filter Element
Inspect the ceramic for cracks after cleaning, if you dropped the filter of if you had freezing temperatures. If the filter shows cracks it will no longer protect you from microorganisms. During normal use the filter can last for up to 7000 liters (2000 gallons). If the gap of the measuring gauge (8) fits over the ceramic it's time to get a replacement filter.

Note: Ceramic has an unlimited shelf life.

Limitations of the Mini Ceramic
The Mini Ceramic will not desalinate water, reduce chemicals, improve taste or remove 99.9% virus. Due to its smaller filter surface it is best fit for emergency or single person use on short trips. Do not backflush, microwave, boil the filter or pump any other liquid than water.
