What is Radon? Radon is an invisible and odorless radioactive gas which occurs naturally from decaying uranium underneath the earth's surface. Though you cannot see, smell, or taste radon, it is there and may be a problem in your home or office. Radon gas rises through the soil and seeps through cracks, holes, and drain pipes in the foundation or basement of your home or office. Radon gas can be found all over the United States and according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 1 out of every 15 homes in the United States has high levels of radon gas. What Can Radon Do To You? Radon gas contains radioactive particles which get trapped in your lungs every time you breathe. As the radon gas particles break down, they release bursts of radiation that damage or destroy your lung tissue which causes lung cancer, and long-term exposure may even cause death. In fact, the EPA has estimated that there are between 5,000 and 30,000 radon-related lung cancer deaths eacy year and that radon gas is the #1 cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. How Do You Find Out If You Have A Radon Problem? To find out if radon gas is a problem in your home or office, you must conduct a radon gas test. The PRO-LAB Professional Radon Gas Test Kit, which meets all new EPA and State guidelines, is the most accurate and reliable test kit available to check the level of radon gas in your home or office. The PRO-LAB professional test kit provides two (2) desiccated, short-term radon gas detectors which allows you to conduct testing at the same time and in the same location in order to get the most accurate results. RADON TEST DIRECTIONS The PRO-LAB Professional Radon Gas Test Kit is safe and easy to use. Simply remove the caps of the two radon gas detectors and place in the lowest livable area of your home or office leaving the detectors undisturbed for a period of 4 days (96 hours). After placing detectors, start to fill out the enclosed radon data card with the radon detectors' serial numbers and beginning test information. At the end of the test period, replace the detector caps and fill in the remaining information on the radon data card. Once completed, immediately use the enclosed pre-paid postage envelope to mail the two detectors, the radon data card and the lab analysis fee to the PRO-LAB EPA and State certified laboratory. Within 1 week after PRO-LAB has received your radon gas detectors, they will send you a professional laboratory analysis indicating the exact radon gas level in your home or office to U.S. EPA PROFICIENCY STANDARDS.
